I just wanted to touch upon the importance of cleaning a wool rug in a proper manner. Generally
speaking, rugs that fall under the category of Persian, Indian, and Oriental are made primarily of wool.
Silk is another material that is used or sometimes mixed in, but I will touch upon silk
in a separate blog due to its complicated nature.
Wool rugs can last a lifetime, actually many lifetimes if cared for properly. The workmanship
involved in weaving these beautiful rugs is incredible, the last thing you ever
want to do is destroy these valuable works of art by letting an unskilled
individual cleaning them in an improper way. By using a poor method, an
unqualified cleaner can take the natural “live wool” and turn it to dead wool.
This will guarantee to cut the lifespan into a fraction of what it could have
been.
The most common mistake is the drying method, or in most
cases lack thereof. Wool holds a tremendous amount of moisture, and without the water being removed and dried,
it will cause the rug to shrink, and curl and deform itself. Also you run the risk of mold and mildew
setting in.

your carpet starts to fall apart. It will be far too late to do anything at
that point.
